Public events exploring reimaginings of Dickens in the UK and worldwide

Dickensian in Cardiff: Behind the Scenes of the BBC Drama Series

Exhibition curated by the Charles Dickens Museum in partnership with Red Planet

Explore the making of critically acclaimed BBC series Dickensian. Written by award-winning TV writer Tony Jordan (EastEnders, Life on Mars and Hustle, amongst others) and produced by Red Planet Pictures, Dickensian launched in December 2015. It has been described as “brilliantly reimagined Dickens” (Independent).

For this unique event, a capsule exhibition will travel to Cardiff. You can see costumes, props, production material and parts of the set, illustrating the craft involved in creating the settings, building the atmosphere and realising the characters of Dickensian. The exhibition will be illuminated by short talks by Louisa Price (Charles Dickens Museum and exhibition curator) and Holly Furneaux (Professor of English at Cardiff University and literary advisor to Dickensian).

Free, pre-booking required. 4pm exhibition opens. Please reserve your space at http://dickensian-at-cardiff.eventbrite.co.uk

Virtual Gallery – My Dickens

Wherever you are in the world you can be part of the event. Send us a photo or short description of your favourite Dickens collectable or collection (be it a first edition of David Copperfield, character toby jugs, a Mrs Gamp doll, a bi-centenary stamp or whatever!). Where does your object or collection live in your house? Is it on prominent display? Or tucked away in acid-free tissue or UV filtered glass? We’ll curate an online gallery of ‘My Dickens’, which will be exhibited during the event. Please send your ‘object’ to: mydickensbavs@gmail.com or instagram MyDickensBavs
